The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command has concluded its five-day “Operation Guduma” enforcement exercise, arresting 321 drivers for various traffic violations across major highways and strategic corridors in the state. The operation, which began on Monday, May 18, 2026, and ended on Friday, May 22, 2026, targeted dangerous driving behaviors and safety breaches that contribute to road crashes. It was conducted in line with directives from the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja and supervised by Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) JO Asaolu, with coordination by Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi.
During the exercise, the FRSC recorded 185 cases of overloaded vehicles, 127 offenders using invalid or fake number plates, four instances of improperly latched containers, three cases of mixed-loading of passengers and goods, and two drivers booked for dangerous driving. Notably, no fake diplomatic number plates were detected during the operation, a significant achievement according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi. He emphasized that these violations pose serious threats to public safety and are major contributors to road traffic accidents in Nigeria.
Afolabi explained that the operation focused on eliminating high-risk behaviors such as overloading, which compromises vehicle stability and braking efficiency, and mixed-loading, which endangers both passengers and cargo. He also highlighted the dangers of moving containers without proper lashing, which can lead to cargo spillage and road obstructions. The FRSC’s enforcement actions were carried out with strict adherence to safety protocols and legal procedures, ensuring that all apprehended drivers were properly booked and sanctioned.
At the conclusion of the operation, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi commended the dedication and professionalism of FRSC personnel involved in the special intervention patrols. He stressed that while the operation has officially ended, continuous surveillance and enforcement will remain in place across Ogun State. The Sector Commander warned that the use of fake number plates remains a critical security threat and vowed that the FRSC will intensify efforts to identify and prosecute offenders.
Ogunjobi urged motorists, fleet operators, transport unions, and the general public to comply with traffic regulations and safety standards to reduce road crashes and ensure safer highways for all. He reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives and property on Nigeria’s roads, especially in high-traffic areas like Ogun State. The successful outcome of Operation Guduma sets a strong precedent for future enforcement actions aimed at improving road safety nationwide.
