Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Mannir Dan-Iya, has been declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Sokoto State, following a statewide primary election. The party’s primary was conducted across all 244 wards in the state’s 23 local government areas, ensuring broad participation from ADC members. Dan-Iya emerged victorious with a total of 52,831 votes, securing the party’s nomination for the upcoming governorship race. The results were announced by Prof. Aminu Abubakar Illela, who served as the Chief Returning Officer for the exercise.
Illela officially declared Dan-Iya as the ADC candidate during the results announcement, stating, “Consequently, I hereby declare you as the ADC candidate for the 2027 general elections.” The declaration marked the formal conclusion of the primary process and set the stage for the party’s campaign efforts. Dan-Iya, in his acceptance speech, expressed deep gratitude to party members for their trust and support. He pledged to work diligently to justify the mandate placed upon him and to deliver results that reflect the aspirations of the people of Sokoto.
In his remarks, Dan-Iya emphasized unity within the ADC, urging members to remain focused and committed as they prepare for the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the party would defeat the ruling party in the upcoming polls, citing strong grassroots support and organizational strength. He also acknowledged the critical role played by former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as well as other party leaders and stakeholders, in building the party’s foundation and mobilizing support.
Tambuwal, speaking at the event, reiterated the ADC’s confidence in victory, highlighting the party’s commitment to inclusivity and youth empowerment. He noted that the ADC had created opportunities for many young Nigerians to contest elective offices, fostering a new generation of political leaders. Tambuwal called on party members to remain patient, resilient, and united, stressing that sustained effort and discipline would be key to electoral success. He also encouraged members to deepen their engagement with communities across Sokoto State to strengthen the party’s outreach.
The selection of Dan-Iya as the ADC’s standard-bearer underscores the party’s strategy to leverage experienced leadership and grassroots mobilization for the 2027 elections. His political background as a former deputy governor positions him as a credible contender in a state where governance and development remain central issues. As the campaign season approaches, the ADC is expected to intensify its activities, with Dan-Iya’s candidacy likely to attract significant attention from voters and political observers alike. The 2027 election in Sokoto State is poised to be a closely watched contest, with the ADC aiming to make a strong showing against the ruling party.
