Adewole Adebayo Warns Tinubus Moles in SDP of Generational Consequences

Adewole Adebayo, former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has raised alarms over the presence of government-backed moles within the party, warning that those who betray their principles for personal gain will face generational consequences. Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy on Thursday, Adebayo suggested that it is a common practice for ruling parties, including President Bola Tinubu’s administration, to infiltrate opposition parties with agents. He noted that this tactic is not new, pointing to past instances during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) era under President Olusegun Obasanjo, when similar strategies were employed against rival political groups.

Adebayo emphasized that while moles will always exist in political circles, strong leadership is essential to counter their influence. He urged SDP members to remain vigilant and to understand the dangers of transactional politics, where individuals may be tempted to align with the government for short-term benefits like money or fleeting fame. According to him, such compromises undermine the integrity of the party and the broader democratic process in Nigeria.

He stressed that Nigeria is currently facing severe existential challenges, including economic hardship and rising insecurity, which leave no room for political theatrics or internal sabotage. Adebayo highlighted the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, particularly in the Southwest, where hunger and high fuel prices are driving widespread discontent. “A hungry person in the Southwest is an angry person,” he said, adding that someone who spends three times their salary on petrol cannot be expected to remain peaceful or politically neutral.

The SDP chieftain called on his party members to prioritize long-term national interest over personal gain. He warned that allowing oneself to be used by the government for political manipulation could have lasting negative effects on future generations. “If you allow yourself to be used to make a little money or make 15 minutes of fame, the consequences will be generational,” he cautioned.

Adebayo’s comments come at a time when political tensions are high across Nigeria, with opposition parties increasingly scrutinizing the actions of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His remarks underscore the need for unity, transparency, and principled leadership within the SDP as it prepares for upcoming elections. As Nigeria continues to grapple with economic and political instability, the integrity of opposition parties will be crucial in holding the government accountable and advancing democratic values. The challenge now lies in ensuring that political actors remain committed to the people’s welfare, not personal ambition.
