July is proving to be a standout month for Nigerian cinema, with a rich lineup of films hitting cinemas across the country. From powerful crime dramas to heartfelt family stories and sweeping historical epics, Nollywood is delivering a diverse and compelling selection for moviegoers. These releases showcase the depth and creativity of Nigerian filmmakers, offering something for every taste and mood.

One of the most anticipated returns is The Return of Omotara Johnson, a crime drama that brings back the iconic character first introduced nearly two decades ago by Bukky Wright. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Wright herself, the film follows Omotara as she tries to leave her criminal past behind to build a peaceful life with her son. When he is accused of murder, her old enemies reappear and long-buried betrayals come to light. This large-scale Yoruba epic, directed by Sunday Alabi Osibata and Damola Olatunji, blends history, mythology, and justice. It follows Akekaka, a freedom fighter betrayed by those he trusted, as ancient forces awaken and revenge takes a devastating turn. The film stars Ibrahim Chatta, Iyabo Ojo, Muyiwa Ademola, Antar Laniyan, Adunni Ade, Yemi Shodimu, Bimbo Oshin, and Bolaji Amusan.
