Police Launch Investigation into Pastors Killing in Adamawa State

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the killing of Pastor Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, a religious leader shot dead by suspected gunmen in Zinai Village, Bolki, Song Local Government Area, on April 21, 2026. The incident, which occurred at around 12:48 am, has raised alarm over rising insecurity in the region and prompted swift police response. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command received a report from a local resident, Amos Sunday, at approximately 6:30 am, detailing the violent attack.

Police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene and discovered the body of the victim lying in the village. They promptly transported the lifeless body to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. A doctor confirmed the death, and the corpse was subsequently moved to the hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation has already yielded critical evidence, with three empty shells from an AK-47 rifle recovered at the crime scene and preserved as exhibits.

SP Nguroje emphasized that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has taken direct oversight of the case. He has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to lead a discreet and thorough probe into the incident. Additionally, tactical police teams have been deployed to the area to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks. The command is also working closely with local community leaders to gather more information and ensure public safety.

The killing of Pastor Emmanuel Ezeoikwe has sent shockwaves through the community, especially given his role as a spiritual leader and community figure. Residents have expressed fear and concern over the increasing frequency of armed attacks in rural areas of Adamawa State. Security experts have warned that such incidents could undermine peace and stability if not addressed urgently.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward. The police have assured the public that they are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. This case highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of northeastern Nigeria, where armed groups continue to operate with relative impunity. The outcome of this investigation may set a precedent for how similar incidents are handled in the future.
