The All Progressives Congress (APC) Emerging Progressives Leaders’ Forum (EPLF) has publicly endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s nomination of Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State, describing the move as bold and strategic. Garo, a former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Kano, was chosen to replace Abdussalam Gwarzo, who resigned on March 27, 2026. The EPLF, through its National Coordinator Hafiz Idris, commended the governor’s decision, stating that Garo’s appointment aligns with the need for experienced leadership to strengthen governance in the state.
Garo, who ran as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Kano during the 2023 elections, is being hailed as a seasoned administrator with deep knowledge of governance and party dynamics. The EPLF highlighted his proven record in public service, administrative competence, loyalty to party ideals, and consistent ability to deliver results. The forum emphasized that Garo’s appointment reflects a clear understanding of Kano’s complex political landscape and the necessity for capable leadership to navigate it effectively.
The EPLF also pointed to Garo’s significant role in expanding the APC’s influence in Kano, noting that he is a trusted figure within the party. His emergence is expected to help bridge internal divisions, foster unity among party members, and lay a strong foundation for future political campaigns. The forum believes Garo’s strong grassroots connections and political experience will not only enhance current governance but also reposition the APC for greater influence and cohesion in the state.
In a statement, the EPLF urged all party members to rally behind the new deputy governor, stressing that collective support is crucial for achieving shared political goals. The forum expressed confidence that the partnership between Governor Yusuf and Garo will bring stability, inclusiveness, and effective leadership to Kano State. This endorsement comes as the Kano State House of Assembly has scheduled Garo’s screening and possible confirmation for Monday, April 27, 2026.
The move underscores the APC’s commitment to consolidating power and ensuring continuity in leadership following Gwarzo’s resignation. As the state prepares for the next phase of governance, the appointment of Garo is seen as a strategic step toward reinforcing party unity and advancing developmental agendas. The coming weeks will be critical in determining how smoothly the transition unfolds and how effectively the new deputy governor integrates into the state’s leadership structure.
