The Ogun State Police Command has arrested and arraigned nine traffic offenders in Sango-Ota as part of its ongoing ‘Operation No Traffic Gridlock’ aimed at tackling persistent road congestion and traffic indiscipline. The suspects, identified as Rufus Kunle, Sanni Ogbewi, Aremu Oluwatunmise, Kayode Ariyo, Wisdom Akpan, Yinka Molaolu, Olushola Adebowale, Ikechukwu Ogah, and Nwuda Chukwuka, were charged for obstructing public highways and violating traffic regulations. The operation, which intensified in key areas prone to gridlock, saw police operatives intercepting vehicles and tricycles found in breach of traffic laws.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests during an interview with DAILY POST on Wednesday. He explained that the enforcement team was strategically positioned at known flashpoints of traffic congestion and road misconduct. Babaseyi emphasized that the suspects were apprehended for deliberately blocking roads, thereby disrupting the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians. All intercepted vehicles were impounded in accordance with the Command’s strict zero-tolerance policy on traffic violations.
The operation reflects a broader initiative by the Ogun State Police to restore order on state roads and ensure public safety. Babaseyi noted that the suspects have been formally charged in court, and the Command remains committed to continuous monitoring and enforcement. He added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals engaging in similar acts of road obstruction or traffic indiscipline.
CP Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police, praised the dedication and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation. He reiterated the Command’s firm stance against any form of traffic obstruction, regardless of the offender’s status or influence. The commissioner warned that anyone found deliberately causing traffic gridlock or disobeying lawful instructions from traffic officers would face swift legal consequences.
This crackdown is part of a wider effort to improve road safety and reduce travel delays in Ogun State, particularly in high-traffic zones like Sango-Ota. The police have urged drivers and road users to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain smooth traffic flow. The operation is expected to continue in other areas of the state as part of the Command’s sustained campaign against traffic-related offenses. With increased vigilance and public cooperation, authorities hope to significantly reduce traffic gridlock and enhance road safety across Ogun State.
