Edo ADC Faction Suspends Oyegun, Osunbor and Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State has suspended 11 prominent party members, including two former governors, two ex-senators, and seven others, over allegations of insubordination, anti-party activities, and unauthorized factionalization. The disciplinary action, announced by Kennedy Odion, the factional state chairman, follows a meeting of the State Executive Committee (EXCO) and takes immediate effect. The suspended individuals are barred from participating in any party activities, meetings, or decision-making processes, and are prohibited from representing the party in any capacity.

The suspended former governors are Chief John Odigie Oyegun and Osareimen Osunbor, while the ex-senators are Yisa Braimah (Edo North) and Ehigie Uzamere (Edo South). Also affected are Nosa Ehima, former Oredo Local Government Chairman; Sylvester Ewanehi, former state commissioner; Tony Alile, newly elected state chairman; Jafaru Sumaila; Stella Alli; Igieogbe Asemota; and Christopher Ojeikere, the state publicity secretary. The suspension comes amid growing internal tensions within the ADC leadership in Edo State.

According to Odion, the suspended members violated party rules by refusing to comply with lawful directives, engaging in anti-party activities, and forming unauthorized groups or caucuses not recognized by the party constitution. He stated that their actions have the potential to cause disaffection, disorder, and disruption within the party structure. The State EXCO emphasized that these acts are inconsistent with the objectives and principles of the ADC.

Odion confirmed that all suspended members will be formally notified in writing of the allegations against them, in accordance with Article 15(B) of the party’s constitution. The State Disciplinary Committee will also provide details of the hearing process, ensuring each member has the right to present a defense, either orally or in writing, and to be represented by counsel or call witnesses. The disciplinary proceedings must be concluded within the time frame prescribed by the party’s constitution.

Affected members retain the right to appeal under Article 15(D), with appeals required to be filed within 14 days of receiving the notice. Appeals will be reviewed and determined within 21 days by the appropriate higher party organ. The directive mandates all Local Government Area (LGA), Ward Executives, and affiliated structures to strictly comply and refrain from recognizing or engaging the suspended members in any party affairs.

Any breach of this directive must be reported immediately to the State EXCO. The suspension is effective from the date of issuance, and all party organs are instructed to deny operational access and recognition to the suspended members during the suspension period. This move underscores the ADC’s efforts to maintain internal discipline and unity amid ongoing leadership challenges. The outcome of the disciplinary process could significantly influence the party’s future direction and political standing in Edo State.
