Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have successfully rescued two kidnapped individuals in Kyado, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, following a targeted intelligence-driven operation on the early hours of 15 April 2026. The victims, Mr. Sylvester Micheal Ebuka and Mrs. Chidinma Chikwentu, were recovered unharmed after being held captive in separate abduction incidents. The rescue mission, which began at approximately 03:50 a.m., was executed with precision and marked a significant breakthrough in the military’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry in the region.

Mr. Ebuka was abducted on 2 April 2026 at around 06:50 a.m., while Mrs. Chikwentu was taken on 6 April 2026 at about 05:13 p.m. Both victims were held in different locations within the Kyado area, a known hotspot for criminal activities. The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the rescue was made possible through credible intelligence and sustained operational pressure on suspected bandit hideouts. Troops conducted aggressive fighting patrols to disrupt criminal networks and dislodge armed elements operating in the area.

According to a statement issued by Acting Media Information Officer of HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, Ahmed Zubairu Zubairu, the abductors fled during the operation, allowing for the safe recovery of the victims. Both individuals were found without any physical injuries, a testament to the efficiency and coordination of the military response. The operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led strategies in countering insecurity in the region.

Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, praised the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty. He emphasized that the successful rescue reflects the military’s commitment to neutralizing threats to peace and security in Benue State and its surrounding areas. Gara reiterated that the armed forces remain determined to sustain operations until all criminal elements are dismantled.

The military also called on residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information. Community involvement, the statement noted, remains a critical component in the fight against kidnapping and other forms of criminality. With this latest operation, the military has reaffirmed its capacity to protect lives and restore confidence in affected communities. The rescue of Mr. Ebuka and Mrs. Chikwentu is expected to boost public morale and signal a continued crackdown on insecurity in the North Central region.
