Prominent chieftains and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State have firmly declared their opposition to any external interference aimed at destabilising the state, particularly in the wake of rumours suggesting an alleged impeachment attempt against Governor Seyi Makinde by the State House of Assembly. The PDP leaders, in a communique issued after a meeting held on Wednesday, stressed their commitment to preserving unity between the executive and legislative arms of government. They specifically condemned efforts to create division between Governor Makinde and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State Constituency.
The meeting, chaired by Adewuyi Ojoawo, brought together key PDP stakeholders who expressed deep concern over the rumour that surfaced on Tuesday. The rumour claimed that the State House of Assembly, under Ogundoyin’s leadership, was planning to impeach Governor Makinde. However, the PDP leaders dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, asserting that they were designed to sow discord and weaken the state’s governance structure. They emphasized that such attempts were not only unfounded but also dangerous to the stability of Oyo State.
In their communique, the Ibarapa PDP leaders stated that they would not allow any external forces to disrupt the existing harmony between the executive and legislative branches. They highlighted that the relationship between Governor Makinde and Speaker Ogundoyin had been strong and collaborative, and any attempt to undermine it would be met with firm resistance. The leaders also called on all stakeholders to remain vigilant and united against misinformation and political sabotage.
The PDP chieftains urged the public to disregard the rumours and instead focus on the developmental strides being made in the state under the current administration. They reaffirmed their loyalty to the party’s leadership and the state’s democratic processes. The communique underscored the importance of maintaining peace and cohesion in governance, especially during critical periods of political activity.
As Oyo State continues to navigate its political landscape, the stance taken by the Ibarapa PDP leaders signals a strong defense of internal stability and institutional integrity. Their declaration is expected to influence public perception and potentially deter further attempts at political destabilisation in the region.
