Atiku Abubakar, presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, calling it the worst he has ever witnessed and pledging to make security his top priority if elected. Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Atiku expressed deep disappointment with the current government’s performance across economic and governance fronts. He emphasized that without security and law and order, no development policy—whether in job creation, infrastructure, or healthcare—can succeed.
Atiku declined to reveal specific political strategies to defeat the incumbent president, stating that such discussions were not appropriate for the forum. He dismissed claims that a coalition candidate would be at a disadvantage against Tinubu, though he did not elaborate on his coalition plans. Instead, he focused on the failures of the current administration, saying, “Everything is wrong with President Tinubu. I mean, honestly, perhaps in my life this is the worst administration I have seen.”
His criticism extended to the economy and overall governance, where he said he feels “terribly disappointed.” He argued that security must be the foundation of any national development agenda. “I believe security, law and order are basic,” Atiku stated. “Whatever you want to achieve, if you don’t have security, you don’t have law and order, I don’t think you can implement whatever policy.”
Atiku outlined his immediate focus if elected: within the first 30 days, he would prioritize restoring stability and ensuring public safety. He stressed that a secure environment is essential for all other national goals. “You must have a secure and stable country,” he said, underscoring that without it, even well-intentioned policies will falter.
The ADC presidential candidate’s remarks come amid growing public concern over rising insecurity, economic hardship, and governance challenges in Nigeria. His direct criticism of the Tinubu administration places him firmly in the national political conversation as the 2027 elections approach. Atiku’s emphasis on security reflects a growing demand among Nigerians for tangible improvements in safety and stability.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Atiku’s campaign is likely to center on accountability, security reform, and economic revival. His strong stance may resonate with voters frustrated by the current administration’s performance. The upcoming election season will test whether his message of change can gain momentum across the country.
