Sheriff Oborevwori has been officially declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State election after securing 345,375 votes from party members across all 270 wards in the state. The result was announced on May 21, 2026, at the APC secretariat in Asaba, the designated collation centre, by Victor Abba, Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer. Oborevwori was the sole aspirant in the party’s direct primary election, making his emergence uncontested and straightforward.
Abba formally certified the outcome, stating that Oborevwori met all constitutional requirements and received the highest number of valid votes cast. He praised the conduct of the exercise, highlighting the unity, maturity, and peaceful nature of the primary. “We have seen what has happened in Delta State and we are satisfied. The maturity of politics in this state is second to none,” Abba said, underscoring the significance of the event in the state’s political history.
The Returning Officer also commended Governor Oborevwori’s administration for its infrastructural projects, people-focused programmes, and governance reforms, noting that these efforts have strengthened the APC’s popularity across Delta State. He emphasized that the peaceful conduct of the primary reflected a new era in Delta politics, free from the violence and crises that have marred past party elections.
Speaking after casting his vote in his ward in Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the APC leadership for organizing a transparent, peaceful, and exemplary primary. He noted that the high turnout across all wards demonstrated strong grassroots support and confidence in his leadership. “I must sincerely appreciate our great party, the APC, for the transparent and exemplary model adopted for this primary election. It is a model worthy of emulation by other political parties,” he said.
Oborevwori added that the primary marked a significant shift from past political traditions, where due process was often ignored, leading to tension and conflict. “For the first time in Delta State, our primaries were conducted peacefully without violence, crisis, or loss of lives. Nobody imposed candidates on the people. The people freely chose those they wanted,” he declared.
Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa echoed this sentiment, saying the turnout reflected widespread support for Oborevwori’s administration. Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, also affirmed that the governor’s emergence was a clear sign of confidence in his leadership. Other APC leaders, including Hilary Ibegbulem, Ndudi Elumelu, Jonathan Ukodhiko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Francis Waive, and Solomon Areyenka, praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise and expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was witnessed by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor, and several other party dignitaries. With Oborevwori now officially the APC standard-bearer, the party is poised to begin its campaign for the 2027 governorship election, building on the foundation of unity and transparency demonstrated in this primary.
