The Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM) in Benue State has reaffirmed its strict stance against criminal activities on campus, pledging to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in vandalism, theft, or other unlawful acts. The university’s Chief Security Officer, Gbehe Simon Ingbian, made this declaration during a strategic visit to the Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Ms. Funmilayo Augustina Tolufashe. The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination between the Security Unit and the Directorate to improve security awareness, public sensitisation, and the timely dissemination of security-related information across the university community.
Ingbian highlighted a recent case involving Victor Dzer, a former student of the Department of Economics, who was arrested on Tuesday, 14th July, 2026, for allegedly vandalising an air-conditioning unit belonging to the university. The suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, ‘E’ Division, Makurdi, for further legal action. The case was prosecuted before Magistrate Court 9 in Makurdi, where Dzer was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison without the option of a fine. This judgment, according to Ingbian, serves as a strong deterrent to potential offenders and underscores the institution’s zero-tolerance policy on crimes that threaten lives or damage university property.
The Chief Security Officer emphasized that the security unit remains committed to intensifying surveillance and ensuring that all criminal activities are swiftly detected and addressed. He stated that the primary objective is to eliminate crime on campus and maintain a safe, secure, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, research, and community service. The university’s security apparatus is actively working to ensure that no act of vandalism or theft goes unpunished, reinforcing its role as a protector of both human lives and institutional assets.
In response, Ms. Funmilayo Augustina Tolufashe commended the Security Unit for its professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to safeguarding the university. She assured full support from her directorate, stressing that continued collaboration would enhance public awareness and promote compliance with university regulations. Tolufashe urged all members of the university community to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate fully with security personnel in the collective effort to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
This decisive action by MOAUM reflects a broader commitment to institutional integrity and safety, setting a clear precedent for accountability. As the university continues to strengthen its security framework, it sends a powerful message that justice will be served and that the campus remains a sanctuary for academic excellence and personal safety.
