The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that only members who completed the party’s e-registration process and received official membership cards will be allowed to take part in the upcoming primary elections. This directive, announced by the state party chairman, Abubakar Bawa, aims to ensure credibility, transparency, and inclusivity in the selection of candidates for the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made during a meeting held over the weekend at the APC state secretariat in Jalingo, where Bawa received two aspirants vying for seats in the House of Representatives.
Abubakar Bawa stressed the importance of maintaining peace and unity among party members as they prepare for the electoral season. He urged all contestants to engage in respectful and constructive campaigns, emphasizing that political competition should not undermine party cohesion. “We must remain united and focused on delivering victory at all levels,” Bawa stated, reinforcing the party’s commitment to fair and transparent internal processes.
He further highlighted that all aspirants must take their campaigns directly to the grassroots, ensuring they connect with party members and voters across Taraba State. Bawa assured that under his leadership, the APC would uphold justice, fairness, and equal opportunity for every candidate. “No one will be favoured or sidelined,” he said, adding that the party’s primary elections would be conducted strictly in accordance with its constitution and guidelines.
The two aspirants who met with Bawa are seeking to represent the Ardo-Kola/Lau/Karim-Lamido Federal Constituency and the Sardauna/Kurmi/Gashaka Federal Constituency, respectively. Their presence at the secretariat signals growing momentum within the party as candidates begin to position themselves for the upcoming primaries. The e-registration requirement is expected to streamline the process and reduce disputes over membership eligibility.
By enforcing the e-registration rule, the APC in Taraba is aligning with national party directives aimed at modernizing membership management and preventing fraudulent entries. The move also reflects a broader effort to strengthen party structures and ensure that only genuine members influence candidate selection. As the 2027 elections draw nearer, the party’s focus on internal discipline and transparency is seen as a strategic step toward consolidating its political base in the state.
With the primary elections approaching, the APC in Taraba is setting a precedent for orderly and credible internal elections. The emphasis on digital membership verification and grassroots engagement could shape how political parties conduct their primaries across Nigeria. This development underscores the party’s determination to build a strong foundation for electoral success in the coming years.
