The Nigeria Police Force has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes with the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Rukubi community, Nasarawa State. The operation followed a distress call received in the early hours of Wednesday after armed men invaded the community on Tuesday night, firing gunshots and causing widespread panic. The attackers allegedly stormed the homes of two villagers, abducted two persons, and fled to an unknown location. Police responded swiftly, launching an intensive manhunt that led to the apprehension of the suspects.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, operatives from the Nasarawa State Police Command worked alongside other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and community youths to track down the kidnappers. The joint effort resulted in the arrest of eight individuals linked to the attack. The suspects were identified as Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, another Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa, all reportedly from Rugan Alhaji Alfa in Rukubi Village. Their swift capture underscores the effectiveness of coordinated security responses in rural areas.
During the operation, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells believed to have been used during the attack. These weapons and vehicles are now in police custody for further investigation. Tragically, one of the suspects sustained serious injuries during the operation and later died while receiving medical treatment at a nearby facility. The incident highlights the dangers faced by both security operatives and criminals in such high-risk operations.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and rapid response. He emphasized that the success was a testament to intelligence-driven policing and strong collaboration among security agencies and community stakeholders. The Force spokesman noted that such operations are critical in restoring public confidence and deterring future criminal activities. Police also acknowledged the vital role played by local vigilante groups, community youths, and residents whose cooperation was instrumental in tracking down the suspects.
The arrest of the eight kidnappers sends a strong message to criminal elements operating in the region. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing security and protecting lives and property across Nigeria. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine the whereabouts of the two abducted persons and whether they are still in captivity. This development marks a positive step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and restore peace in vulnerable communities.
