Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists and Hitmen in Lagos

Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and alleged contract killers linked to a series of violent crimes in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo, and surrounding communities, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing fight against armed criminality. The suspects—Emmanuel Nwokolo, 35, known as “Oblo”; Ayola Israel, 39, known as “Essy Pawpaw”; Ebuka Nnamdi, 31; and Chinedu Okafor, 22—were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, on Tuesday. The arrests were announced in a statement posted on the command’s official X handle, underscoring the police’s proactive approach to tackling organized crime in the region.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity, a notorious criminal group implicated in multiple attacks and killings that have caused fear among residents. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in a string of violent incidents that have destabilized the area. A chilling video allegedly showing the killing of unidentified individuals in Ajanmgbadi and nearby communities was recovered from one of the suspects’ mobile phones, providing critical evidence linking them to the crimes.

A search operation following the arrests led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, one revolver, and 13 live cartridges, all believed to be used in their criminal activities. These weapons and ammunition were seized as part of efforts to dismantle the network and prevent further violence. The police emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ operations, identify other members of the criminal group, and apprehend any remaining accomplices still at large.

The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives involved in the successful operation, reaffirming the command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety across Lagos State. He stressed that the police will continue to dismantle criminal syndicates and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. The commissioner also urged Lagosians to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information that can aid in crime prevention and resolution.

This arrest highlights the increasing efforts by security agencies to restore peace in high-risk areas of Lagos. As investigations continue, the public can expect more updates on the case, with the ultimate goal of delivering justice and restoring confidence in the safety of communities affected by armed violence.
