Ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection exercise for registered voters across the state. The process began on Monday, June 1, 2026, and will run through June 21, 2026, with collection points set up at designated wards and INEC Local Government Area offices. This critical step is essential for voter participation, as only those with valid PVCs will be accredited and allowed to vote on election day.
The ward-level PVC collection will take place from June 1 to June 14, 2026, covering all 16 local government areas in Ekiti State. Following this, voters can collect their cards at INEC offices in each local government from June 15 to June 21, 2026. The collection windows will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends, to accommodate as many voters as possible. INEC has emphasized that the PVC remains the sole document accepted for voter accreditation at polling units during the election.
INEC has urged all registered voters who have not yet collected their PVCs to do so within the specified timeframe. The commission stressed that failure to collect the card before the deadline may result in disenfranchisement. Voters are advised to visit the collection centres assigned to their polling units and bring their temporary voter cards or any other valid form of identification for verification purposes. This ensures a smooth and secure process during the collection phase.
Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, assured the public that INEC has implemented necessary measures to guarantee a transparent and seamless PVC collection process. He highlighted the importance of public cooperation and urged traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organizations, and the media to actively sensitise citizens about the exercise. Special emphasis was placed on reaching out to women, youths, and persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusive participation in the electoral process.
INEC reiterated that voter accreditation and voting will strictly require the presentation of a valid PVC. The commission remains committed to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to exercise their franchise. As the election draws closer, the successful completion of the PVC collection exercise will play a pivotal role in determining voter turnout and the overall credibility of the election. The upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State will be a key test of democratic participation, and the PVC collection process is a crucial step toward that goal.
