The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has officially welcomed back prominent political figures, including former Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere and former House of Assembly member Uche Ogbuagu, in a significant show of party unity and resurgence. The event, held at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, was attended by members of the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, who described the occasion as a turning point in the party’s history in the state. The return of these influential leaders, along with their supporters, signals a renewed effort by the PDP to reposition itself ahead of upcoming elections and to reassert its relevance in Nigerian politics.
Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed emphasized that the party remains united and ready to contest any electoral race, dismissing claims that the PDP is fragmented or irrelevant. He stated that internal conflicts have been resolved, except for those individuals intent on undermining the party’s stability. Mohammed urged the newly returned members to feel at home and contribute fully to the party’s growth, assuring them of equal treatment and fair opportunities within the party structure. His remarks were echoed by the National Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, who dismissed critics who claim the party is dead, citing the recent influx of prominent figures as proof of its vitality.
Anyanwu highlighted the significance of the day, naming Prince Eze Madumere, Uche Ogbuagu, Professor Awuzie, Sir Mike Ejiogu, Vitus Nwoke, Anthony Odunze, and others as key additions to the party’s ranks. He stressed that the PDP is not only alive but strategically positioned to reclaim elective offices at both state and national levels, with a clear agenda to reshape Nigeria’s economy. He called on Nigerians, particularly Imo voters, to embrace the party, emphasizing that its umbrella is broad enough to include all who seek genuine change and progress.
The State Chairman of the PDP, Austin Nwachukwu, described the event as a double celebration — marking both the visit of NWC officials and the reintegration of new members. He acknowledged past internal challenges that nearly destabilized the party, noting that opponents and critics had celebrated what they believed was the party’s downfall. However, Nwachukwu declared that a lasting resolution had been achieved through the leadership of National Chairman Nyesom Wike and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. He told the new members that joining the PDP is not just a political decision but a life-changing step into a family of equals, where rights, privileges, and opportunities are shared fairly.
In their speeches, the returning members pledged unwavering loyalty to the party’s leadership and committed to adhering to its constitution. Their return strengthens the PDP’s presence in Imo State and reinforces its position as a viable alternative in the country’s political landscape. With renewed leadership and unity, the party is now poised to make a strong comeback in future elections.
