Enugu NDC Announces Screening and Appeal Details, Reveals Committee Members

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State Chapter, has officially announced the screening of aspirants for elective positions in the state, with the event scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026. The party’s leadership, including State Chairman Dr. Johnpaul Anih, Secretary Dr. Sebastine Okafor, and Publicity Secretary Emmanuel Ugwueze, released a statement on Friday outlining the details of the process. The screening will take place at the Dragon Recreation Centre in Enugu, serving as a key step in the party’s internal selection for upcoming elections.

The screening committee will be chaired by Prof. I.G. Nwangwu, with Barr. Peace Chidi Ugwu serving as Secretary. Other members include Chinachi Nnabuko and Emma Onovo, who will assist in evaluating the candidates. To ensure fairness and transparency, an Appeal Committee has also been constituted, led by Prof. Chinedu Aguba as Chairman. Mrs. Chioma Agbo will serve as Secretary, while Clinton Ogbonna and Rev’d Austin Nnaji will act as members of the appeal panel.

Aspirants are required to present photocopies and original copies of their birth certificates, four recent passport photographs, a copy of their voter cards, their Curriculum Vitae, and valid NDC membership cards. These documents are essential for verification and to confirm eligibility for participation in the screening process. The party emphasized the importance of bringing all required materials to avoid disqualification.

Following the screening, any candidate who feels aggrieved by the outcome may file an appeal. The NDC has set Monday, May 25, 2026, as the designated date for handling such appeals. This provides a structured pathway for candidates to challenge decisions, ensuring the process remains open and accountable.

The announcement reflects the NDC’s commitment to organizing a transparent and orderly selection process for its candidates. The party’s leadership aims to strengthen its presence in Enugu State ahead of future electoral contests. By setting clear timelines and procedures, the NDC is laying the groundwork for a credible and inclusive nomination process.

This move is expected to energize party members and attract more qualified individuals to run for office. As the 2026 electoral cycle approaches, the NDC’s structured approach may position it as a more organized and competitive political force in the state. The screening and appeal process will be closely watched by political observers and party supporters alike.
