President Bola Tinubu secured a decisive victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election held on Saturday at Ward L2 in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, polling 4,996 votes out of 5,163 accredited voters. The direct primary, held at Ireti Nursery and Primary School on Mekwen Street, off Queens Drive in Ikoyi, marked a key step in the party’s selection process for the 2027 general election. Tinubu faced competition from businessman Sterlyn Osifo, but his overwhelming win underscores strong party backing and support from APC members across the region.
The voting exercise began early in the morning under tight security arrangements, with a visible presence of party loyalists, stakeholders, and prominent leaders. The atmosphere was calm and orderly, reflecting the party’s commitment to a transparent and peaceful primary process. Party members turned out in large numbers, demonstrating their enthusiasm and dedication to the APC’s electoral ambitions.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, APC Lagos State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and party chieftain Kola Peregrino were among the notable figures who monitored the proceedings. Their presence highlighted the significance of the event and the unity within the party’s leadership. Pastor Ojelabi commended the participants for their discipline and commitment, describing the process as “peaceful and well organised.”
He told party members, “The rewards of your loyalty to the party will yield proceeds in due course. Thank you for the wonderful support for our President and the APC.” He also urged them to continue showing confidence in the party, saying, “Today, we are here to re-elect the candidate of your choice. Let Nigerians know that APC is the best party in Nigeria.”
President Tinubu arrived at the polling centre at approximately 11:35 a.m., shortly after voter accreditation was completed. His presence was met with cheers and applause from supporters, reinforcing his strong connection with grassroots party members. The ward returning officer, Martha Adikwu, officially declared Tinubu the winner after the vote count was finalized, confirming his landslide victory.
This primary result strengthens Tinubu’s position as the APC’s preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, setting the stage for a unified campaign strategy. As the party prepares for the next general election, the outcome signals a clear mandate from APC members and a reaffirmation of Tinubu’s leadership within the party. The result also reflects the party’s confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria into the next administration.
