The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports suggesting that some of its candidates plan to sue the party leadership under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, calling the claims “entirely false” and a product of mischief. In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP reiterated its commitment to transparency and unity ahead of upcoming elections. The party also confirmed that its ongoing legal suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking recognition of its Interim National Working Committee (NWC) has been adjourned for judgment.
The case, instituted by the PDP’s Board of Trustees, was heard earlier in the day, with legal representatives for all parties adopting their respective processes before the court. Following the proceedings, the court adjourned the matter for judgment, with the date yet to be communicated. The PDP emphasized that the legal action is part of its efforts to ensure that its constitutionally established leadership structure is recognized by INEC, a crucial step for effective party operations during the electoral cycle.
In addition to the legal update, the PDP addressed circulating rumors that certain candidates were threatening legal action against the party leadership. The party firmly denied these allegations, stating that no candidate has made any formal complaint or expressed intent to pursue litigation. Instead, the PDP highlighted that all candidates remain in regular communication with party leadership and are consistently briefed on developments. This ongoing dialogue, according to the party, underscores the cohesion and unity within its ranks.
The statement further accused the source of the rumors as “ill-wishers and PDP pretenders” who are allegedly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party warned that these false narratives are being spread to mislead the public and create confusion during a critical period. The PDP urged media organizations and journalists to rely only on official communications from its authorized channels to avoid amplifying misinformation.
As the party continues its legal and organizational efforts, it remains focused on preparing for the 2023 general elections. The adjournment of the INEC case for judgment marks a significant step in the party’s quest for institutional recognition, while the debunking of internal conflict rumors reinforces its public image as a united and disciplined political force. The outcome of the court case could have far-reaching implications for the party’s ability to operate effectively and field candidates across Nigeria.
