Operation Kosaye: Police Arrest 88 Suspects, Rescue 5 Kidnap Victims in Lagos and Ogun

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised security agencies for the successful execution of Operation Kosaye, a coordinated anti-crime offensive that has led to the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, and the recovery of weapons and ammunition across Lagos and Ogun states. The operation, which began recently, has also resulted in the death of four suspected criminals during a gunfight with security operatives. Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the police and other security forces for their swift and decisive actions, emphasizing that the state government remains fully committed to ensuring public safety.

The statement from the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, highlighted the collaborative efforts between Lagos and Ogun state security forces. The governor specifically acknowledged the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, noting that the police’s intelligence-led operations have been instrumental in dismantling criminal networks. He stressed that the cooperation between neighboring states is essential in combating cross-border crime, particularly in areas like the forest boundary between Lagos and Ogun, especially along the J3/J4 axis of Ogbere in Ogun State.

Operation Kosaye, which translates to “no space for criminals,” is a targeted initiative aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery gangs, and other violent criminal elements operating in the South-West region. Security operatives have intensified patrols and conducted raids in suspected hideouts, parading arrested suspects and displaying recovered weapons to send a strong message to would-be offenders. The government maintains that these visible actions are designed to deter criminal activities and reassure residents of the state’s commitment to security.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and providing critical intelligence. He assured that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) would be used to motivate and equip law enforcement personnel to maintain their high level of performance. “We will do our best to ensure that our law enforcement agencies are well motivated,” he said, reinforcing the government’s long-term strategy to sustain security gains.

The ongoing operation reflects a broader effort to restore peace and confidence in communities affected by insecurity. With continued collaboration between state and federal security agencies, and active participation from the public, authorities hope to create an environment where crime cannot thrive. The success of Operation Kosaye sets a precedent for future security initiatives across the region.
