A 22-year-old man, Habu Hellere Dauda, has been remanded in prison custody by a court in Yola, Adamawa State, over allegations of robbing a nine-year-old boy of N600 at knife-point. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 9, at Ajiya Street in Jimeta, Yola, where Dauda allegedly attacked the child and took his money. The Chief Magistrate Court 3, presided over by Uwani Danladi, ordered the remand after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges during arraignment.
Dauda, who hails from Rumde Makera in Jimeta, was arraigned before the court by police prosecutor Danjuma Hamidu. The prosecutor presented the First Information Report detailing how the accused used a knife to intimidate the nine-year-old victim, Aliyu Mohammed, and stole N600 from him. When the report was read to him, Dauda admitted guilt without contesting the facts of the case.
Following the plea, the prosecution applied for Dauda’s remand to allow time for a witness to be called to corroborate his confession. Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi granted the application, citing the need for additional evidence to support the case. The court adjourned proceedings until Monday, August 17, to facilitate corroboration and possibly conduct a summary trial.
In addition to robbery, Dauda faces charges of criminal intimidation and shilla gangsterism under Sections 382 and 346 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State. These sections criminalize threats with weapons and involvement in organized criminal activities, respectively. The remand ensures the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue and legal processes unfold.
The case has drawn attention due to the young age of the victim and the violent nature of the crime. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant, especially in high-risk areas like Jimeta, where such incidents have been reported in recent months.
