OPEP Troops Arrest Two Suspects Linked to NIPSS Attack

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested two suspects linked to the recent attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The arrests took place on Saturday, July 4th, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by Sector 6 of OPEP at the Trade Center axis of Kuru. According to Captain Polycarp Oteh, the spokesperson for the operation, the suspects were apprehended at approximately 3:30 p.m. and are currently in custody for further interrogation.

One of the suspects, identified only as Aboi, was arrested first. Under intense questioning, he provided information that led operatives to the second suspect. Oteh confirmed that both individuals are being exploited for intelligence to help track down other members of the criminal network involved in the attacks. The security forces are using the information to identify and apprehend fleeing suspects, aiming to dismantle the group entirely.

The arrests come after a series of violent attacks on the NIPSS facility, which resulted in the deaths of about four people, including security personnel. The most recent attack occurred on July 2, when armed assailants stormed the institute. Troops successfully repelled the attack, killing one of the invaders while others fled with gunshot wounds. The incident highlighted the growing insecurity in the region and the persistent threat posed by armed criminal elements.

During the operation, security forces recovered a service rifle with the registration number CO-3175. Investigations revealed that the weapon had been stolen from a soldier killed during an earlier attack on the Federal College of Land Resources Technology in Vom on April 11, 2026. The recovery of the stolen firearm underscores the link between the attacks and suggests a coordinated effort by a well-armed criminal network.

The security situation in Plateau State remains tense, with multiple attacks reported in recent weeks. The OPEP troops continue to conduct patrols and intelligence operations to restore peace and protect critical institutions. The arrest of these two suspects is seen as a significant step in the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further violence. Authorities remain vigilant and are urging the public to report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against insecurity.
