NDC Assures Voters: Candidates Will Appear on Ballot Despite Deregistration Concerns

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that its candidates will appear on the ballot in the 2027 general elections, despite recent legal setbacks in its registration process. National Secretary Ikenna Enekweizu made the assurance during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, emphasizing the party’s determination to participate fully in the upcoming elections. He stated that despite a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, setting aside its earlier ruling that ordered INEC to register the NDC, the party remains committed to fielding candidates.

Enekweizu revealed that the party was scheduled to collect its electoral codes from INEC on the same day to begin uploading candidates for the 2027 polls. However, the court’s decision came at a critical moment, potentially disrupting the process. “We were supposed to be at INEC today to pick up the codes, and then in the middle of the day, the ruling just came up,” he said. He suggested the timing of the ruling was deliberately planned to hinder the party’s progress, but insisted that the NDC would not be deterred.

“We’ll pick them up. We’ll upload our candidates and we’ll participate in the elections,” Enekweizu declared with confidence. He reassured supporters that there is no cause for alarm, adding that the party is confident of victory. “Our candidates and supporters have nothing to fear. We’ll win the elections because Nigerians are fed up with what is going on in this country today,” he said.

The NDC leader highlighted widespread public frustration with the current state of governance, citing hunger, insecurity, and government failures as key factors driving voter discontent. He argued that these issues are eroding public trust and creating a fertile ground for opposition parties to gain traction. “We are fed up with the hunger, the insecurity, the failures of government and the heartlessness of the government that is ruining this country,” he stated.

The party’s legal battle with INEC has been ongoing, with the Federal High Court initially ruling in its favor before reversing that decision. Despite the setback, the NDC remains focused on its electoral goals and continues to prepare for the 2027 elections. With six months remaining before the election cycle begins, the party is working to ensure its candidates are registered and ready to compete.

As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, the NDC’s resilience in the face of legal challenges signals its intent to play a significant role in the next general elections. The party’s message of change and accountability may resonate with voters seeking alternatives to the current administration.
