A 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, has been arrested in Kano State for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding members of the public through fraudulent claims of influence over police recruitment, transfers, and postings. The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Panshekara Police Division on September 1, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the Kano State Police Command. Musa, a resident of Kureken Sani Quarters in Kano, is now in custody as investigations continue.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists. According to the statement, the police received a distress report from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) stationed at Challawa around 7:30 pm on the day of the arrest. This prompted immediate action, leading to the apprehension of the suspect after a swift deployment of officers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa had been posing as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), using false credentials to deceive unsuspecting individuals. He allegedly claimed to have significant influence within the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in matters related to job placements, transfers, and promotions. To bolster his fraudulent claims, he used edited photographs and artificial intelligence-generated images showing himself alongside real senior police officers.
These manipulated visuals were part of his scheme to gain trust and extract money from victims who believed they could secure positions or career advancements through him. His deception targeted people seeking employment or career progression within the police service, exploiting their hopes and desperation.
During a search of his residence, police recovered several items linked to his scam. Among the seized materials were a pair of black jacket uniforms, two pairs of black shoes, a camouflage uniform, a blue uniform top, and a sum of N300,000 in cash. These items suggest an attempt to mimic the appearance and authority of genuine police personnel.
Musa remains in police custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat fraud and impersonation, especially in sectors where public trust is critical. Authorities warn citizens to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any person claiming official status before engaging in financial or personal transactions.
