A 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly shooting and killing his age mate, Hassan Mohamed, in Rinjin Gura village, Zalau Ward, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m., following a violent altercation that ended in tragedy. The police confirmed the arrest and recovery of a Dane gun used in the crime, marking a swift response to the incident.
According to SP Nafiu Habib, the command’s spokesman, the police received an urgent report from a resident of Zalau Ward alleging that Yusuf had fired a Dane gun at Mohamed, striking him in the neck. Operatives from the Gumau Division were immediately deployed to the scene to secure the area and provide emergency assistance. The victim was rushed to Toro General Hospital for medical treatment, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The deceased’s body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, as confirmed by the police spokesman. The suspect, Jabir Yusuf, was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody. Authorities also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, which is now being treated as an exhibit in the ongoing investigation.
The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further discreet probe and possible prosecution.
