Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in the Iju-Ishaga and Oke-Aro areas, following a swift intelligence-led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday after police conducted sustained surveillance based on credible information. The arrest marks a significant step in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and restore public confidence in security across the state.
The suspects, identified as Damilare Oluwatobi, 28; Lekan Adenuga, 30; Haruna Sheriff, 22; and David Balogun, 24, were caught at their hideout in Idi-Oro, Mushin. Police operatives recovered several items during a search of the location, including 25 mobile phones, two laptop computers, a gold necklace, earrings, and three cutlasses. These items are believed to have been stolen or used in the commission of crimes linked to the syndicate.
Abimbola Adebisi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement shared via the command’s official X handle. She emphasized that the operation was a result of proactive policing and effective use of intelligence. The four suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with investigators as the probe continues.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the VCRU team for their quick response and precision in executing the operation. He described the arrest as a testament to the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents. Fatai reiterated that the police remain vigilant against all forms of violent crime, particularly armed robbery, which has been a growing concern in urban areas.
