Kwara Police Bust Bandits Logistics Network, Arrest Key Suspect

Kwara State police have dismantled a suspected bandits’ logistics network in a major crackdown, arresting a key suspect in Ilorin, the state capital, on Thursday. The operation, carried out by the Violent Crime Response Unit, was based on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance. Police recovered a large quantity of assorted cigarette brands and other rations believed to be part of a supply chain supporting criminal elements operating in forested and remote areas across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Kwara State, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest during a briefing in Ilorin. She stated that the suspect’s activities were directly linked to the movement and supply of materials intended for bandits and other criminal groups. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect held a strategic support role within a broader network that provides sustenance and logistical aid to armed criminals.

Evidence gathered during the investigation included photographs found on the suspect’s mobile device. These images showed him dressed in military camouflage and seated on a Bajaj motorcycle, further confirming intelligence links to criminal activities. The visuals have strengthened ongoing probes into the suspect’s connections and the extent of the logistics network.

Authorities are now intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend other collaborators involved in the network. SP Adeyemi emphasized that the police are not only targeting armed criminals but also the support systems that enable their operations. This includes suppliers, informants, and individuals who provide logistical or financial assistance.

State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, reassured residents that security operations in Kwara are increasingly focused on disrupting the entire criminal ecosystem. He highlighted that the police are determined to cut off resources, freedom of movement, and support networks that sustain criminal activities. Ojo stressed that anyone aiding criminality, directly or indirectly, will face legal consequences.

The crackdown underscores the police’s commitment to enhancing security in Kwara State. With continued intelligence-driven operations, authorities aim to dismantle networks that fuel insecurity and protect communities from banditry and related crimes. This latest development signals a broader strategy to dismantle criminal infrastructure, not just confront armed threats on the ground.
