The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected claims that members in Kumbotso Local Government Area have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting that the party remains united and intact in the region. In a statement released on Wednesday, APC Publicity Secretary Auwalu Soja dismissed the reports as false and accused the Kwankwasiyya movement of spreading misinformation to divert attention from its own internal challenges. He emphasized that the individuals allegedly involved in the defection were not officially recognized by the APC leadership in Kumbotso, casting doubt on the authenticity of the claims.
Soja highlighted that APC members in Kumbotso are satisfied with the development projects being implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and the Kaduna-Kano-Maradi standard gauge railway, both of which traverse parts of the local government. These infrastructure initiatives, he noted, are expected to significantly improve economic opportunities and connectivity in the area. Additionally, he commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for attracting investments to Kumbotso, which have created jobs and boosted local economic activities, further strengthening party loyalty among residents.
“The party stakeholders and loyalists in Kumbotso are satisfied with the infrastructural projects being executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Soja stated, reinforcing the party’s confidence in the current administration’s development agenda. He urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to address its own internal divisions rather than engaging in what he described as baseless propaganda aimed at destabilizing the APC. “The average Kano voter can no longer entrust their future to the political gimmicks and selfish interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement,” he added, appealing to public sentiment and political accountability.
The APC also called on residents to disregard social media reports suggesting defections from the party to the NDC, stressing that its organizational structure in Kumbotso remains strong and unbroken. The statement came in response to online claims that had gained traction, particularly on social media platforms, where images and narratives of alleged defections were being circulated. However, the APC leadership maintains that these reports are unfounded and part of a broader campaign to undermine the party’s credibility.
On the other hand, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, disputed the APC’s denial, insisting that defections from the ruling party to the NDC are ongoing across Kano State. “The defection of APC members to the NDC in the state is a daily phenomenon,” Mohammed said, citing photographs from recent political events as evidence. Despite the conflicting accounts, the APC remains steadfast in its position, vowing to maintain unity and focus on delivering results for Kano’s citizens. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the outcome of these claims may influence voter perceptions and party dynamics in the lead-up to future elections.
