The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has conducted a crackdown on a suspected brothel in Sokoto metropolis, arresting 11 individuals and sealing the premises during a special operation on Wednesday evening. The raid took place in the Cilma area of the state capital as part of “Operation Tsaftace Birni Shehu,” an initiative aimed at curbing immoral and unlawful activities that violate religious and public order laws in the region. The operation was carried out based on intelligence gathered from concerned citizens who reported suspicious behavior at the location.
Imam Sirajo Abubakar, Acting Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board and Director of Da’awah and Aids, led the team that executed the raid. He confirmed that all 11 suspects—comprising both men and women—were apprehended at the scene, and the building was immediately sealed to prevent further illicit activities. The Hisbah Board stated that the operation was a direct response to public reports and part of a broader strategy to maintain moral standards in Sokoto State.
Abubakar emphasized the board’s unwavering commitment to eliminating prostitution and other acts deemed harmful to societal values. “We are determined to rid Sokoto metropolis of all forms of prostitution and immoral acts that corrupt our youths,” he said during a statement following the operation. He warned that anyone found engaging in such activities would face legal consequences, underscoring the board’s readiness to enforce laws strictly across the state.
The Hisbah Board also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could threaten community morality. Abubakar added that more operations like this are expected in the near future. “The public should expect more of these operations because we will not allow indecency to take root in our communities,” he stressed.
This crackdown reflects the ongoing efforts by Sokoto State authorities to uphold religious and social order, particularly in urban centers where such activities are more likely to occur. The operation has drawn attention to the role of community intelligence in supporting law enforcement, as well as the Hisbah Board’s proactive stance in addressing moral decay. As the investigation continues, the suspects are being held for questioning, and the sealed premises will remain under observation. The incident is expected to reinforce public awareness about the consequences of engaging in or supporting immoral activities in the state.
