Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully killed a Boko Haram terrorist and disrupted an ISWAP mission aimed at extorting civilians in Yobe State, following a swift and decisive military operation on July 19, 2026. The operation, carried out in the Paya Kafiya axis, was based on credible intelligence about the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles carrying suspected terrorists. Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed the details in a statement released by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) on Tuesday.
The troops from Forward Operating Base Bukarti, in coordination with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol to intercept the terrorists. Upon making contact, they engaged the insurgents with overwhelming firepower, leading to an intense firefight. One of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was hit and immobilised, and its driver was neutralised during the encounter.
The terrorists, unable to withstand the military’s superior combat strength, abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush. Four of them were seen escaping with gunshot wounds, according to the military spokesman. The follow-up exploitation operations conducted on July 20, 2026, along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis yielded significant findings. The abandoned vehicle was recovered, along with 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs including paracetamol and nicotine products, and mechanical tools believed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment.
Captain Goni emphasized that the operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led military actions. He noted that Operation HADIN KAI continues to disrupt terrorist supply chains and dismantle illicit revenue networks that fund extremist activities in the North East. The military remains committed to maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements through coordinated, intelligence-driven operations.
The operation also underscores the importance of public cooperation and the synergy between security agencies in combating terrorism. Goni reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI will continue its offensive posture until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace, security, and stability are restored across the region. The success in Yobe State serves as a clear warning to insurgents that their attempts to terrorize civilians will not go unchallenged.
