The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially selected Idris Gatumbwa Mamman Durkwa as its consensus candidate for the Borno South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections. Durkwa, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, was chosen following a screening process that also evaluated other potential candidates. The decision marks a strategic move by the ADC to strengthen its presence in southern Borno, a region with significant political and electoral influence. The seat is currently held by Senator Ali Ndume, who has already secured the APC nomination to seek a fifth term in office.
Durkwa’s selection comes amid growing political activity as parties across Nigeria begin preparing for the 2027 elections.
