NSCDC Foils Kidnapping Attempt and Cattle Rustling in Kano, Ensuring Community Safety

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has successfully foiled a kidnapping and cattle rustling attempt in Kiru Local Government Area, preventing a potential tragedy and rescuing two abducted children. The incident, which occurred recently in the remote Dansoshiya Forest area, involved armed assailants who attacked a 70-year-old shepherd, Alhaji Saleh, inflicting serious injuries before abducting his two children. NSCDC operatives, acting on timely intelligence, swiftly responded to the scene and engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle. The security personnel’s superior firepower and coordinated action forced the suspects to abandon the children and flee into the forest, sustaining injuries in the process.

The NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, confirmed the details in an official statement, highlighting the effectiveness of the command’s rapid response and intelligence-driven operations. He noted that the rescued children, identified as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhammed Inuwa Dille, 30, were safely reunited with their family members. The injured shepherd, Alhaji Saleh, was immediately transported to a nearby health facility for medical treatment, where he is currently receiving care. The incident underscores the persistent threat of kidnapping and livestock theft in rural parts of northern Nigeria, particularly in areas with porous borders and limited security presence.

The NSCDC’s intervention demonstrates the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, especially in vulnerable communities. The command has intensified surveillance and patrols in the Kiru area following the incident, aiming to deter further criminal activities. Authorities are currently pursuing the suspects, who are believed to have fled into the dense forest, and have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements. The operation also highlights the importance of community intelligence in combating crime, as the swift response was made possible by timely information from local sources.

This successful rescue operation comes amid rising concerns over insecurity in northern Nigeria, where armed groups often target pastoralists and rural dwellers. The NSCDC continues to work alongside other security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the region. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by security forces and the need for sustained efforts to protect civilians. As the investigation continues, the NSCDC remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians, especially in high-risk zones.
