Troops Raid Illegal Arms Factories, Arrest Suspects in Plateau State

Troops of the Quick Response Force (QRF) under Operation ENDURING PEACE successfully dismantled two illegal arms manufacturing factories in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday, 7 May 2026. The coordinated raid, executed with precision, led to the arrest of five suspects actively engaged in fabricating lethal weapons. Security forces also recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and industrial equipment used in the production of firearms. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.

Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the details in a statement. He highlighted that the operation was well-planned and executed to target known hotspots for arms production. The suspects were apprehended on the spot while engaged in the assembly of firearms, demonstrating the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing. Authorities believe the factories were operating under the cover of civilian areas, posing a serious threat to public safety.

Among the items seized were nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, four empty AK-47 magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles, and ten rifle butts. Additionally, 36 empty 7.62mm special shells, four revolver engines, and 14 recoiling springs were recovered. The equipment used in the manufacturing process included six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, and four welding machines, along with assorted industrial tools. These findings indicate a well-organized and systematic effort to produce firearms locally.

The suspects and all recovered items are currently in custody for further interrogation and detailed investigation. Security operatives are intensifying surveillance in the area to ensure no remnants of the illegal network remain active. The operation is part of a broader strategy to mop up arms and ammunition already in circulation, especially in areas prone to communal and security threats.

Operation ENDURING PEACE expressed gratitude to the local community for their cooperation and vigilance. The task force urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. Citizens are encouraged to play an active role in safeguarding their communities from criminal elements. This latest success reinforces the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in Plateau State.

As the security forces continue to dismantle illegal arms networks, the government remains focused on long-term solutions to prevent the recurrence of such activities. The operation sends a strong message to those involved in arms trafficking and illegal manufacturing that they will not operate with impunity.
