Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed four Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and arrested one during a military operation in the Timbuktu Triangle, a region known for insurgent activity in northeastern Nigeria. The encounter took place on May 5, around 1:15 pm, in the Multe area, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the region. The operation was carried out by forces under Brigade Group I, which includes the 25 Brigade Guards and 19 Battalion. The engagement resulted in the neutralization of four terrorists and the capture of one alive, according to sources cited by Zagazola Makama.
The military operation also led to the recovery of several weapons and equipment from the insurgents. Among the seized items were three AK-47 rifles, 50 rounds of ammunition, five magazines, nine bicycles, and two motorcycles. These items are believed to have been used by the terrorists for movement and combat in the remote and rugged terrain of the Timbuktu Triangle. The recovery of such weapons underscores the continued threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements in the area and highlights the importance of sustained military presence.
Following the firefight, security forces intensified their operations by clearing multiple terrorist hideouts in Dusu, Multe, and Hawan Burum. These actions are part of a broader strategy to regain control over key areas and prevent the insurgents from regrouping. The clearance operations have improved the security situation in the region and provided local communities with a greater sense of safety. Military commanders emphasized that such operations are critical to disrupting terrorist logistics and communication networks.
All recovered weapons and equipment, along with the captured terrorist, have been transported to the Headquarters of the 25 Brigade for further investigation and legal proceedings. The military remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for violence and instability face justice. The success of this operation reflects the effectiveness of coordinated military efforts in the region and demonstrates the resolve of Nigerian security forces to combat terrorism.
This development comes amid continued military operations across northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and ISWAP have carried out attacks in recent months. The Timbuktu Triangle, located in Borno State, remains a hotspot for insurgent activity due to its remote location and porous borders. The Nigerian military’s consistent actions in the area are aimed at restoring peace and enabling the safe return of displaced persons. As operations continue, authorities are urging local communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. The outcome of this latest engagement signals a step forward in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region.
