Concerned All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kwara State have formally petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged internal party crises, accusing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of actions that could undermine the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections. The petition, dated April 22, 2026, was submitted at the APC national secretariat in Abuja and addressed to the President and other top party leaders. It was presented to journalists by Hon. Olosasa Toyin, and jointly signed by Comrade Onimasa Hazmat Ganeey and Alhaji Abdulraheem Alabi, who identified themselves as committed APC members in the state.
The petitioners accused Governor AbdulRazaq of “de-marketing” the party through unpopular policies, ineffective handling of security challenges, and alleged alienation of both party members and the general public. They argued that the governor’s leadership has eroded public confidence and weakened the party’s electoral appeal, particularly in Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts. According to the petition, the governor’s actions have made him a liability to the APC’s prospects in the upcoming elections.
The group also raised alarm over what they described as a plan by the governor to impose Hon. Danladi Yakubu, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, as his successor in 2027. They warned that such a move could spark internal conflict within the party, as it bypasses the democratic processes and consensus-building expected in APC primaries. The petitioners noted that efforts by other party leaders to contribute to development in the state have been obstructed, while dissenting voices are reportedly being silenced through legal actions and intimidation by security agencies.
Furthermore, the stakeholders criticized the governor’s reported decision to reopen the 2018 Offa robbery case involving former Senate President Bukola Saraki. They described the move as politically motivated, suggesting it could generate public sympathy for Saraki and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This, they argued, may negatively impact the APC’s electoral performance in Kwara State and beyond.
The petitioners urged President Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to intervene swiftly to address the growing tensions. They emphasized the need for unity and transparency within the party to prevent further fragmentation. They also called for a review of governance and leadership structures in Kwara State to ensure the party remains competitive and credible ahead of the 2027 elections.
As the APC prepares for its next electoral cycle, the petition highlights deepening internal divisions that could affect its performance in one of Nigeria’s key political states. The outcome of this intervention may shape the party’s strategy and cohesion in the months ahead.
