A young man, Nura Usman, and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Nomansland, Kano, on charges of conspiracy and attempted murder. The duo is accused of plotting to kill Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono, at their residence in Dantsinke Quarters, Kano. The court proceedings were presided over by Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, who adjourned the case until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
According to police investigations, the suspects allegedly hired an assassin and paid him N500,000 to carry out the killing of Alhaji Shanono. Instead of carrying out the assassination, the alleged assassin reportedly informed Shanono about the plot. In a dramatic twist, Shanono and the assassin staged his death to deceive the accused into believing the crime had been successfully executed.
The fake death was made convincing when the assassin took Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal belongings, presenting them as evidence of the killing. The accused, convinced by the deception, announced Shanono’s death to family and friends, leading to a gathering of relatives and sympathisers for mourning rituals. This created a false narrative that circulated widely within the community.
However, the truth emerged when Alhaji Shanono reappeared in public alongside security operatives, revealing that his death had been faked. His unexpected return shocked many and exposed the elaborate scheme. The revelation led to immediate arrest of the suspects and the initiation of legal proceedings against them.
The case has drawn widespread attention across Kano State and beyond, highlighting issues of family conflict, betrayal, and the dangers of criminal conspiracies. Authorities are now working to ensure justice is served while also investigating the role of the alleged assassin and how he came to be involved in the plot.
