The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially forgiven Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Representative Chris Nkwonta for publicly supporting Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The decision was made during a stakeholders’ post-primary reconciliation meeting held at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Sunday, where party leaders emphasized unity and strategic focus for future electoral success. Despite the forgiveness, the APC leadership issued a stern warning against any further statements or actions deemed harmful to the party’s image or goals.
The motion to extend forgiveness was moved by Uzor Azubuike, the APC candidate for Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, and seconded by Emmanuel Ndubuisi, who represents Bende South Federal Constituency. A voice vote by attendees confirmed the party’s decision to grant grace and mercy to Kalu, Nkwonta, and other members who had expressed support for the incumbent governor. This gesture reflects the APC’s commitment to internal reconciliation as it prepares for upcoming political battles.
Chijioke Chukwu, Chairman of the APC in Abia State, explained that the affected members had privately reached out to clarify their positions and express regret for their public endorsements. He stressed that while the party chooses to forgive, such acts must not be repeated, warning that any future anti-party conduct would lead to severe disciplinary measures. “This is not a license to continue making divisive statements,” Chukwu said, underscoring the need for cohesion within the party ranks.
He also highlighted the importance of unity in challenging the ruling Labour Party, which currently holds power in Abia State. With the 2027 elections approaching, the APC aims to consolidate its strength and present a united front to reclaim governance. Chukwu reiterated that internal harmony is essential for electoral victory and long-term political relevance.
In addition, the chairman announced the nullification of unauthorized suspensions imposed on some APC ward leaders across various local government areas. This move signals a return to structured party discipline and reinforces the authority of the state executive. By addressing both internal conflicts and administrative irregularities, the APC seeks to project an image of stability and preparedness.
The reconciliation meeting marks a significant step toward healing divisions within the party and repositioning for future electoral contests. As Abia State gears up for another round of political competition, the APC’s ability to maintain unity will be critical in shaping its chances of success. The party’s leadership now looks ahead with renewed determination to build a strong foundation for victory in 2027.
