The Yobe State Police Command has achieved significant progress in combating crime, recording 407 criminal cases handled and 152 convictions secured within the year under review, according to Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin. Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Damaturu on Thursday, CP Jibrin detailed the command’s operational outcomes, highlighting the arrest of 448 suspects linked to various criminal activities. The cases included 31 murders, 35 rape cases, eight kidnappings, 11 armed robberies, and 322 other offences, reflecting a broad spectrum of criminality addressed by law enforcement.
Of the 407 cases, 152 suspects have been convicted, while 127 cases are currently before competent courts. Sixty-nine cases remain pending, 17 are awaiting legal advice, and 42 resulted in acquittal. These figures underscore the command’s efforts to ensure justice is served through due legal processes. The police also intensified operations against drug trafficking and related crimes, uncovering a suspected drug warehouse in Potiskum. During the operation, officers arrested a suspected drug baron and recovered eight cartons of assorted illicit drugs, 1.5 Ghana-Must-Go bags of Tramadol and Exzol tablets, and N835,500 believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
The operation faced violent resistance from members of the syndicate, prompting the police to repel the attackers and continue pursuit of fleeing accomplices. In another major operation, coordinated raids were conducted in Jakusko Local Government Area, targeting criminal hideouts and drug joints. These raids led to the arrest of 14 suspected drug dealers and users, with over 300 sachets and packages of Tramadol, Indian hemp, Vega tablets, and other prohibited substances seized. The successful interventions demonstrate the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
CP Jibrin emphasized that the Yobe State Police Command remains dedicated to protecting lives and property across the state. He reiterated the importance of community cooperation and vigilance in sustaining the gains made so far.
