Troops of Operation “FANSAN YAMMA” have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered weapons, motorcycles, and livestock during an intelligence-led raid on a terrorist enclave in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The operation, conducted under Operation Clean Sweep III, took place in the early hours of Monday, following credible intelligence about criminal activities in the area. Military personnel from the 17 Brigade launched a surprise assault on the suspected hideout located in Ginchawa, swiftly overwhelming the terrorists with superior firepower. The attackers attempted to resist but were forced to flee into the surrounding bushes as troops advanced.
During the pursuit, soldiers followed the fleeing terrorists along their escape routes until contact was lost. The military confirmed that two terrorists were neutralised during the engagement, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds, as bloodstains were found within the enclave. The operation also yielded significant recoveries, including two PKT machine guns, one locally made firearm, one AK-47 magazine, and 75 rounds of 7.62mm NATO linked ammunition. Additionally, three motorcycles, two mobile phones, and a pair of camouflage uniforms were seized, indicating the presence of an organised criminal network.
The troops also recovered cows and goats, believed to have been stolen by the terrorists, highlighting their involvement in cattle rustling and other illicit activities. These recoveries underscore the military’s commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and disrupting their operations across the North-West region. The army stated that the operation is part of a broader strategy to deny criminal elements safe havens and freedom of movement. By targeting known hideouts and acting on intelligence, security forces aim to restore peace and protect civilian populations in vulnerable areas.
The successful raid demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated military efforts and intelligence gathering in combating insurgency and banditry. It also reflects the ongoing challenges faced by security agencies in the region, where terrorist groups continue to exploit remote areas for their operations. The military remains vigilant and continues to conduct regular patrols and raids to prevent the resurgence of violence. This latest operation adds to a series of recent successes in Katsina and neighbouring states, reinforcing public confidence in the security forces’ ability to maintain stability. As the campaign against terrorism progresses, authorities are urging communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid in the fight for lasting peace.
