President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election in Delta State, securing 407,646 votes in a landslide win. His only challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifo, received zero votes, marking a clear endorsement of Tinubu’s candidacy by APC members across the state. The primary election was held on Saturday across all 25 local government areas of Delta State, with results collated and declared in Asaba, the state capital.
Delta State Governor and Returning Officer for the APC presidential primary, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, officially announced the outcome after a thorough collation of votes from all wards. He confirmed that the APC had a total membership strength of 467,815 registered members in the state, with 407,646 of them accredited and actively participating in the election. Oborevwori declared Tinubu the winner, stating, “By the powers conferred on me as the State Coordinator and Returning Officer, I hereby declare that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having polled overwhelming votes in the presidential primary election, is hereby declared winner and returned elected as the presidential candidate of the party.”
The declaration took place in the presence of security personnel, journalists, key party officials, and election agents. Among those present were President Tinubu’s agent, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, and Mr. Stanley Osifo’s agent, Mr. Kelvin Ezekiel. The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren, also witnessed the announcement, underscoring the transparency and credibility of the process.
Governor Oborevwori praised the party members and stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and orderly conduct of the primary. He described the exercise as successful and a reflection of strong internal unity within the APC in Delta State. He emphasized that the smooth execution of the election demonstrated the party’s commitment to democratic principles and fair representation.
Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, also expressed gratitude to party members for their cooperation and discipline during the primaries. He noted that the presidential primary marked the culmination of a series of internal elections that began with primaries for the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, and governorship positions. “Today is the climax of the party primaries, which started from the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries, which end today. We thank God for the peaceful conduct of all the primary elections across Delta State,” he said.
With the presidential primary concluded, the APC in Delta State is now poised to focus on the next phase of its political activities, including campaign preparations for the upcoming general elections. The overwhelming support for President Tinubu signals strong party cohesion and sets the stage for a unified national campaign.
