Vice President Kashim Shettima participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Borno State on Thursday, where Engr. Mustapha Gubio was unopposedly selected as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election. The event took place in Maiduguri, the state capital, and was attended by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, top party officials, delegates, and key stakeholders from across Borno. Gubio’s emergence as the APC flagbearer was confirmed without any contest, marking a smooth and peaceful primary process for the party in the state.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of unity within the APC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. He urged party members to set aside personal differences and rally behind the party’s candidates to ensure a strong performance in the polls. Shettima’s presence underscored the national leadership’s commitment to supporting APC’s electoral ambitions in Borno, a state of strategic importance in the North-East region.
Governor Zulum, who also attended the primary, expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders for their active participation in the selection process. He commended the APC for conducting a transparent and orderly primary, which he said reflects the party’s maturity and readiness for governance. Zulum’s remarks highlighted the collaborative spirit within the party as it gears up for the upcoming electoral cycle.
Engr. Mustapha Gubio, after being declared the APC candidate, pledged to continue and expand on existing development projects if elected governor in 2027. He promised to prioritize governance, security, and infrastructure development across critical sectors such as education, health, and agriculture. Gubio’s campaign focus on sustainable development aligns with the APC’s broader vision for Borno’s long-term growth and stability.
The primary was attended by prominent APC figures, including Deputy National Chairman (North) Ali Bukar Dalori, Senators M.T. Monguno and Kaka Shehu Lawan, members of the National Assembly, Borno State House of Assembly representatives, commissioners, and other party leaders. Their presence reinforced the party’s unity and collective resolve to deliver victory in the 2027 elections.
As Borno State prepares for the next electoral cycle, the APC’s successful primary in Maiduguri sets a positive tone for the party’s campaign strategy. The selection of Gubio as the unopposed candidate signals a consensus-driven approach, which could strengthen party cohesion and voter mobilization in the coming years. The APC’s focus on development and unity in Borno may influence voter sentiment ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
