Senator Ali Ndume has credited his consistent electoral victories to the unwavering support of his constituents, divine intervention, and backing from key political figures, while emphasizing that he is not among the favored insiders in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the senator highlighted his seventh consecutive election bid, having previously served two terms in the House of Representatives and four in the Senate. He stressed that his success stems from the trust his people place in him and the All Progressives Congress (APC), which they believe serves their interests effectively.
Ndume noted that voters in his constituency are well-informed and educated, capable of making independent political decisions. He said their continued support for him and the APC reflects a belief that both are aligned with their needs and aspirations. “Our people are not fools,” he stated. “My people are mostly aware and educated. So, if you see them elect APC and Ndume is part of it, it is because they feel that APC is better for them and that’s why they vote for us or that Ndume is better.”
The senator revealed that he secured the APC’s nomination through a combination of divine grace, grassroots support, and assistance from certain political leaders. He made it clear that he does not enjoy the same level of influence or favor within the corridors of power as some other lawmakers. “I got the ticket from God and my people and the support of some of our leaders,” he said. “You know I’m not one of the popular guys on the corridor of power so far.”
Despite being known for his critical stance toward the current administration, Ndume maintained that public officials should be commended when they take actions that benefit the people. He emphasized that constructive criticism should not preclude recognition of good governance. “You know that I’m one of the critical guys of this government,” he said, “and when somebody does something that you expect or something good to you, you really have to commend him.”
Ndume’s remarks underscore his commitment to representing his constituents’ interests, even when it means challenging the status quo. His long-standing electoral success speaks to his strong grassroots connection and the trust he has built over the years. As he prepares for another campaign, his focus remains on serving his people and upholding the values that have defined his political journey. The upcoming election will be another test of his enduring appeal in a competitive political landscape.
