Senator Lau Denies Dragging APC, INEC, and Opponent to Court

Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau, representing Taraba North Senatorial District, has firmly denied reports circulating on social media that he has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Jalingo to challenge the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for his district. The false claims, which emerged over the weekend, alleged that Lau had initiated legal action against his alleged opponent, Kabiru Bello Badawaire, the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Returning Officer, Senator Dahiru Bako. The senator dismissed the reports as entirely fabricated and misleading, emphasizing that he has not filed any legal suit related to the primary election.

The viral reports included a purported originating summons claiming Lau sought a court declaration affirming him as the rightful APC candidate for the 2027 general election. However, in a statement made in Jalingo, Lau categorically rejected the authenticity of the documents, describing them as fake and designed to sow discord within the party. He urged party members, political associates, and the public to disregard the claims, warning that such misinformation could create unnecessary tension and division ahead of upcoming elections.

Lau emphasized that there was no logical reason for him to challenge an election he had already won. He stated that he emerged victorious in the APC primary and has been officially recognized by INEC as the party’s candidate for Taraba North. “Why should I go to court after winning the primary?” he asked, reiterating his confidence in the legitimacy of the election outcome. The senator maintained that instituting a legal challenge against a victory would be illogical and counterproductive.

He further alleged that the false reports were part of a coordinated effort to mislead the public and destabilize party unity. Lau assured his constituents that his mandate remains intact and that he continues to serve the people of Taraba North with dedication. He expressed gratitude to APC members and supporters for their loyalty and urged them to remain calm and united, especially in the face of such baseless allegations.

Senator Lau reaffirmed his commitment to representing the interests of his constituents and called on party faithful to focus on building a strong foundation for future political activities. As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, the senator’s clarification underscores the importance of accurate information and party cohesion in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
