Sustainable Capital Exits Seplat Energy, Sells Remaining 36.7 Million Shares

Seplat’s stock has seen strong performance, trading near N11,201 by late August 2026 and giving the company a market capitalisation exceeding N7 trillion. Sustainable Capital had initially increased its stake to 10.01% in February 2025, acquiring 58.88 million shares at the time. Its exit unfolded in two major phases: first reducing its position to 6.18% in March 2026, then eliminating the remainder by August. The company has not provided any official reason for the divestment.

Seplat Energy, listed on both the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and London Stock Exchange, has expanded significantly after integrating Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported average production of 129,841 barrels of oil equivalent per day, supported by improved cash flow and higher quarterly dividends. While Sustainable Capital’s departure alters the landscape of Seplat’s institutional shareholder base, the identity of the new owners remains unknown. Any investor acquiring shares that trigger disclosure thresholds will be required to report under market regulations. This exit underscores shifting investment dynamics in Nigeria’s energy sector as major players reposition their portfolios.
