The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Opel Vectra and arrested three suspects linked to a vehicle theft operation that spanned Bauchi and Gombe states. The operation, which began after a distress call on June 29, 2026, led to the recovery of the green Opel Vectra with registration number AH 232 AKK, belonging to Mr. Muazu of Katsinawa Village along Jos Road in Bauchi. Police officers from the ‘E’ Division swiftly responded, intercepting the vehicle at Dorawan Dillalai and arresting one suspect on the spot.
Further investigations by detectives from the Area Command extended into Gombe State, where two additional suspects—Abubakar Musa, 46, and Usman Abubakar, 30—were apprehended while allegedly negotiating to purchase the stolen vehicle. According to the police, the suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted this was not their first such offense. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and will charge all three individuals in court once the investigation is complete.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the details, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in combating crime. He noted that the recovery was made possible due to the timely tip from a good Samaritan who reported the theft. The prompt action of the officers, combined with the public’s alertness, played a crucial role in the successful operation.
Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended both the police operatives and the citizen who provided the information. He stated that the Command remains dedicated to cracking down on vehicle theft and other criminal activities across the state. CP Sani-Omolori stressed the importance of community vigilance in maintaining security and preventing crime.
The incident highlights the growing collaboration between law enforcement and the public in addressing rising vehicle theft cases in northern Nigeria. Police continue to intensify patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas to deter criminal activities. This recovery serves as a warning to would-be offenders and a reassurance to the public that justice is being pursued.
As investigations proceed, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The successful recovery of the stolen vehicle and arrest of the suspects reflect the ongoing efforts to restore confidence in public safety and uphold the rule of law in Bauchi and surrounding regions.
