The Osun State Police Command has arrested Adebayo Isiaka Akanbi, a suspected murderer and armed robber, in connection with the killing of commercial motorcyclist Tiramiyu Afeez, whose body was discovered in February 2026 along the Ojo-Ara-Ejigbo road. The suspect was apprehended on April 18, 2026, by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), following a thorough investigation that included intelligence gathering and technological analysis. A stolen motorcycle, identified as the victim’s Bajaj, was also recovered from the suspect, along with two ignition keys.
The case was initially reported to the ‘A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026, after Afeez failed to return home following his routine commercial motorcycle operations on February 21. Family members were unable to locate him, and efforts to trace his whereabouts proved fruitless until a police patrol team from Awo Division found an unidentified corpse lying in a pool of blood. The body was later identified as Afeez’s, and preliminary investigations revealed that he had been killed by having his throat slit with a knife.
Following the discovery, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the SCID in Osogbo for detailed investigation. Through diligent work, detectives tracked down the suspect and arrested him on April 18, 2026. During interrogation, Akanbi confessed to luring Afeez to the Ara-Ejigbo axis via phone call, where he attacked and killed him before stealing the motorcycle. He also admitted to disposing of the knife used in the crime and the victim’s mobile phone.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, confirmed that the suspect would be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete. He emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities and assured residents that Osun State would not become a safe haven for criminals. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state, particularly against commercial motorcyclists who are often targeted.
The recovery of the motorcycle and the suspect’s confession are key developments in the case, providing closure to the victim’s family and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement. The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the prevention of similar crimes. This incident underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and communities in maintaining peace and security. The Osun State Police Command’s swift action sends a clear message that justice will be served, and criminals will not escape accountability.
