The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected drug dealers and recovered over 300 sachets and packages of illicit drugs during a coordinated raid in Jakusko Local Government Area. The operation, conducted at Buduwa Market, targeted known drug hubs as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state. Police operatives apprehended the suspects while they were allegedly engaged in the sale, consumption, and abuse of prohibited substances. The arrests are seen as a major step in curbing the rising tide of drug-related crimes in northern Nigeria.
The suspects, whose ages range from 20 to 35, include Hamisu Umar, Usman Wakili, Aliyu Mohammed, Hassan Ali, Dudduwa Dorsha, Adamu Hussaini, Sale Adamu, Adamu Umaru, Babaru Hassan, Dangi Maikudi, Hassan Audu, Abubakar Usman, Ahmadu Waziri, and Daudu Yusuf. All were taken into custody following the raid and are currently being interrogated. Police recovered various illicit drugs, including Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp, and other controlled substances. These items were seized from the suspects’ possession and are being documented as evidence.
According to SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer, the investigation is ongoing and the suspects are cooperating with authorities. They are providing valuable information that could lead to the arrest of additional members of the criminal network. The police command has stated that the suspects will be formally charged in court once the investigation is complete. This move underscores the command’s commitment to enforcing the law and protecting public safety.
Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin has directed all area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical commanders to intensify surveillance and raids on known criminal hideouts and black spots across Yobe State. He emphasized the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and substance abuse. CP Jibrin warned that drug abuse continues to fuel violent crimes and other illegal activities, posing a serious threat to societal peace and security.
The operation reflects a broader strategy by the Yobe State Police Command to dismantle drug syndicates and restore order in vulnerable communities. Authorities are urging residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement. As the investigation continues, more arrests are expected, signaling a sustained crackdown on drug-related offenses in the region. This effort is part of a national campaign to reduce drug abuse and its associated crimes across Nigeria.
