The Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected telecommunications infrastructure vandals who confessed to stealing solar power equipment from a telecom facility in Offa, Kwara State. The suspects were apprehended on June 20, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Irepo area along the Oyo–Ogbomoso Expressway. They were found transporting four hybrid solar batteries valued at approximately ₦8 million in an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE 992 KH. The recovered items and the vehicle have been taken into police custody as exhibits for further investigation.
The suspects were identified as Jimoh Mufutau, 35, from Mowe-Ibafo, Ogun State; Saheed Akanbi, 34, from Onipanu, Lagos State; Lateef Ibrahim, 37, from Igando, Lagos State; and Lukman Jimoh, 38, from Isheri/Berger, Lagos State. During interrogation, they admitted to stealing the equipment from a telecommunications facility in Offa, Kwara State, and attempting to transport it to an undisclosed location. The police confirmed that the suspects are part of a larger criminal network targeting critical infrastructure, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate.
The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit, who demonstrated high levels of vigilance and professionalism. Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, praised the officers for their proactive efforts and swift action. He emphasized the Command’s commitment to protecting national infrastructure and ensuring that criminals do not operate with impunity within Oyo State. Olugbenga also stressed the importance of public cooperation in combating crime.
He urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. According to the Commissioner, credible information from the public plays a vital role in disrupting criminal operations and bringing perpetrators to justice.
